What absolutely must not be missed on the first day of work?
Preferably provide a "soft landing. In other words, depending on the type of work you do, plan your first day of work before you actually go on vacation. That way you can go on vacation with a certain amount of rest and, if all goes well, also start your first day at work in peace. On your first day of work, try to use at least part of the day or part of the morning to "land. This can take the form of cleaning up your mail, prioritizing, catching up with colleagues and/or your supervisors. Let your first working day be all about getting back into your routine and preferably do not schedule the important calls, presentations and meetings until your second ( or third) working day after your vacation. This gives you the opportunity to let your system acclimate to the pace of work again. Also provide frequent mini breaks to reset. This will most likely help hold onto your mental and physical reserves that you just replenished during your vacation.
Sunday read your mail ahead of time, do it or not?
If you really don't have time to read your mail on your first day at work, it can be useful to prepare for this on Sunday evening. Make sure you do not spend any more time than necessary and set a timer, for example. If reading your e-mail on Sunday evening actually contributes to restlessness, it might be wiser to save it until your first actual work day.
Role of executives
Managers also have a supporting role in guiding employees to a great start. Show interest in their vacation and check in with them on the first or second day of work at the latest. Update them on important issues and, if necessary, help prioritize for a flying start.
