Supervisie biedt de mogelijkheid om, ook nu met het tekort aan artsen, de juiste ondersteuning te bieden aan medewerkers evenals de kwaliteit en veiligheid van de zorg te waarborgen. Under supervision within occupational medicine are all physicians (in training to become company doctor) who are not registered company doctor . This can range from AIOS to family physician to emergency room physician. By working with supervision, many more physicians are eligible to work within company medicine, without compromising quality and safety.

The purpose of supervision is to ensure the quality and safety of services. Also, supervisees (the physicians working under supervision) can learn a lot during the close collaboration with the supervisorcompany doctor) and hone their professional skills. It also provides a safe environment in which supervisors can openly reflect on their own actions, discuss challenges and develop new strategies to provide the best care to clients.

During supervision, the supervisor and supervisees have regular consultations that involve observation and feedback on various cases. With attention to feedback, advice and guidelines, doctors can develop and improve their knowledge and skills. These competencies and improvement are recorded in a supervision agreement.
