More and more employers are paying attention to prevention. A very good sign, as preventing absenteeism brings many benefits. Yet in the delusion of the day, this great initiative quickly fades into the background; "No time now, but it's on the agenda for the next quarter". No time, or not (yet) a priority? When an employee does unexpectedly fall into absenteeism , you can no longer push it forward. Our Health and Safety Advisors (AAG) have noticed that both absenteeism and prevention are seen as additional activities. After all, as a manager, how are you going to do that if you already have enough to do in a day?
Signaling and recognition
The goal is that attention and genuine interest are integrated into the working day, without feeling like an extra task. Because precisely those factors; genuine interest and entering into dialogue with each other, ensure that you can act preventively. By knowing what is going on in the (private) life of the employee, you can jointly examine whether (temporary) preventive adjustments are necessary. For example, in the nature of the work and/or hours.
By signaling in time as a manager, preventive action can be taken. Of course, the employee himself also has a responsibility to sound the alarm if necessary. It is precisely by maintaining accessible contact with the employee and having a good mutual relationship, such matters and signals will come up for discussion more quickly.
Vitamin A(attention)
From De Arbodienst , we are convinced that the biggest challenge is in the management of an organization. How do you interact with employees? How do they experience the culture of the organization? To what extent are employees involved and do they feel connected, even in times when people are working more from home than before? Of course, initiatives such as free fruit and (discounted) sports subscriptions are appreciated, but if the basics are not right, you will unfortunately not make it.
In short, by incorporating vitamin A(andattention) and sincere conversation from a good employer perspective, a lot can already be prevented. Who will you be having a cup of coffee with soon?
