At Stichting Titurel, everything revolves around connection. The organization offers daytime activities and residential support to people with autism, intellectual disabilities, and/or mental health issues. "We call ourselves the Titurel family," says Martine, coordinator of daytime activities and volunteers. "We know what's going on, and we're there for each other. That applies to residents and employees alike." With around 60 permanent employees and a group of dedicated volunteers, Titurel forms a close-knit community. No freelancers, no distance, just short lines of communication and personal attention.

Working from connection

Martine sees every day how important it is to know your employees and keep them engaged. "Our target group demands a lot from our team. That gives meaning to our work, but it can also be tough. That's why we invest in moments when we really get to know each other: brainstorming sessions, annual celebrations, or just a good conversation. That makes people feel safe to share what's going on."

Sometimes that also means having difficult conversations. “You want people to return to work. The longer someone stays at home, the more difficult it becomes. With our Labor & Health Advisor De Arbodienst , I have learned that sometimes you have to dare to ask: ‘Do you want to work here?’ If it’s not a good fit, we look at other options together.”

absenteeism by identifying it early on

Martine believes that it is easier to see what is going on in a small-scale organization. "We're at the front line. If someone has a shoulder problem, we look at how we can adjust their work so that they can keep going for longer. Sometimes we assign a volunteer to work alongside someone to lighten the load. Solutions like that keep the team strong ." Long-term absenteeism a challenge, especially in the case of unforeseen events such as accidents. "Some complaints are difficult to define, such as a loss of energy. Then it's a matter of looking for what is possible."

De Arbodienst as a partner and support

Martine finds the collaboration with De Arbodienst valuable and reassuring. "I mainly work with our regular advisor, and that works out great. She is decisive, strict when necessary, and very knowledgeable. She looks at things from a different perspective, which means that as an employer, you don't have to carry everything on your own. That gives you peace of mind."

Quick switching provides certainty

Martine appreciates the ability to respond quickly. "In our line of work, it's essential to be able to act immediately. That's the difference between waiting and actually working on recovery. With De Arbodienst , we have that well under control. We have an overview, know where we stand, and can respond quickly."
